Columbia provided Construction Management services for Bayer Healthcare’s relocation project to Two Edgewater Drive in Norwood. The new, state-of-the-art facility will suit Bayer’s biomedical testing and R&D needs.
The 100,000 sf, design/build fit-up consisted of 20,000 sf of biosafe level II (BSL-2) laboratories, as well as 80,000 sf of open and hard offices, conference rooms, training facilities, and a cafeteria.
Specialized laboratory areas included an anechoic chamber for radiated immunity testing, an environmental chamber with set point temperature and humidity, a shielded room for a scanning electron microscope as well as microbiology laboratories, reagent evaluation laboratories with incubator rooms, and cold rooms.
The existing infrastructure of the building had to be extensively modified, including the installation of new emergency systems, UPS power systems, life safety systems, room pressurization, strict temperature and humidity control, central deionized water and acid waste systems, fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, and distribution for 15 biological gases.
