Steve Cunningham, AIA, LEED AP

Nature Lover | Faith Filled | Collaborator

" As an architect prior to joining the firm, I had the opportunity to work with Columbia on several occasions. I found their combination of diligence, commitment and collaboration to be refreshing. I believe this is the way construction projects should happen, and it's the primary reason that I'm now part of this team."

Steve Cunningham, AIA, LEED AP

Director of Academic

Joined Columbia in 2020

As Director of Academic serving educational clients, Steve’s role is centered on developing and maintaining the trust of clients by providing exceptional service and delivering buildings and spaces that exceed their expectations. With over 30 years of experience, including, leadership roles in both academic facility management and architectural design, Steve finds the planning stage of a project exciting because it charts the vision and sets the stage for project potential. At the end of the day what he loves most is delivering on that potential and seeing the excitement and satisfaction of the end users when the doors of a facility finally open. Known by his colleagues as genuine, caring, trustworthy and hard-working, Steve has a solid sense of humor at the core. Highly regarded in the industry for his technical skill and his ability to manage strong team relations, he clearly establishes and defines a client’s vision through careful planning and informed decision making.

Steve’s faith, family, Italian food, and of course a cup of tea are some things he couldn’t live without. Outside of the office, he stays active golfing (despite the bad shots and lost balls), running, spinning and spending time in nature  – especially the peace of the woods and the ocean. With a strong penchant for traveling, he hopes to one day travel to the Grand Canyon.
