MIT - Building 4

  • Owner:

  • Scope:
    Renovations
  • Location:
    Cambridge, MA

Renovations to the 4th floor of MIT’s Building 4 entailed the complete demolition of an existing chemistry undergraduate teaching lab and the construction of new office and lab space. The floor now supports faculty and teaching within the School of Science’s Department of Earth, Atmosphere, and Planetary Sciences as well as the School of Engineering’s Department of Materials, Science and Engineering.

Located in the heart of campus, Building 4 is well-trafficked and heavily occupied. Construction was performed in multiple phases to minimize impact on building operations.

The newly configured 4th floor features a Level 4 Clean Room in addition to office and lab space. Select infrastructure updates included a roof replacement and upgrades to the courtyard-facing exterior façade. Two new air handling units now serve the updated space.
