Martha’s Vineyard Hospital faced an affordable housing crisis that significantly impacted employee recruitment and retention. To help address the concern, Columbia provided preconstruction planning, site development, and construction services for a new workforce housing development on the island.
With 48 new modern housing units, featuring a variety of modular buildings for employees and their families, including 2 two-story apartment-style buildings with common staircases connecting 4 units each, a townhouse-style building with individual exterior entrances, and 4 two-family houses, the residential spaces were created with pleasant openness and familiar characteristics.
The team, including architect LWDA Design and modular fabricator Ritz-Craft, collaborated to design and build modular structures that complied with the new energy stretch code, delivering a permanent housing solution on an efficient, fast-track schedule.
